GROUND ACCESS

The ground is located in the southern half of the village, with the football pitch located behind the primary school and next to Penyffordd Bowling Club. Some parking is available in the school’s car park although on-road parking is your more likely bet as the car park can fill up quickly. Note it is a school field, so the facilities can be a bit basic in comparison with other Flintshire grounds.

Penyffordd can be reached via train as it has its own railway station, which is just a 10 minute walk away from the football pitch. In addition, bus stops are situated nearby also, being just a 5 minute walk from the ground also. Finally, the nearest pub is the club’s traditional home of the Red Lion, which is just a 5 minute walk away, on the corner of Abbott’s Lane and Rhos Road.

BRIEF HISTORY

Penyffordd FCPenyffordd Lions originate from the ashes of the old Penyffordd FC team, who competed in Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division, and had won numerous cups during their time, but sadly had to fold at the end of the 2015-16 season. The backbone of the new side came from the local Sunday League team, the Red Lion Strollers, as they made the transition back to senior football to ensure the village had a senior team once again. Their suffix of “Lions” is a reference to their Red Lions heritage.

The Lions’ debut season of 2017-18 has been their best so far, having finished runners-up in the North East Wales League, and winning the North East Wales FA Horace Wynne Cup, eight years after Penyffordd FC last won the same competition. They have since maintained their position within the North East Wales League, consistently being one of the stronger sides in the fifth-tier league.
