GROUND ACCESS

As the name suggests, the ground is part of a leisure and sports complex in Hope, which also includes the Castell Alun High School, situated in the centre of the village. The entrance to the sports centre situated on Fagl Lane. Therefore the complex has plenty of car parking available, with the grass football pitch located a short walk around the tennis/netball courts and 3G pitch, at the top of the complex’s sports fields.

Hope can be reached either by the Mold-Wrexham bus route (route 29), or by train as the village has its own train station. The bus stop opposite Saint Cynfarch’s Church is the nearest bus stop to the ground in Hope, and just a couple minutes’ walk away from the ground, whilst the train station is just a 5-10 minute walk away from the ground.

There is no snack bar available at the ground although snacks and hot drinks can be bought from vending machines inside the sports centre section of the building complex. Pre and post alcoholic drinks can be acquired from the White Lion pub, which is just a walk away from both the football ground and bus stops. It is located on the corner of the junction between the A550 and Stryt Isa.

BRIEF HISTORY

For the entirety of their history, Castell Alun Colts have played within the leagues of the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) pyramid, with their most recent history playing in either the Premier Division or Division One of the northeastern Welsh system. During their history, the club have won a number of league and cup trophies, with the pinnacle being crowned the 2002-03 WNL Premier Division champions! Alas they were unable to accept promotion to the Cymru Alliance, and actually had to drop down a division.

The Colts competed in Division One for the near entirety of the 2010’s, where they were considered one of the stronger teams within the league, but just missing out on promotion on numerous occasions. However the 2019-20 season was Castell Alun’s best league performance since they dropped into the WNL Division One, as they finished in the runners-up position and earned themselves promotion back to the WNL Premier Division for the first time since 2010.
