The ground is located in the northwestern outskirts of Buckley, sitting in front of the Etna Park, and has views over the Dee Estuary to the Wirral and beyond. It isn’t too far from the A55 Expressway and A494 main roads, as well as being about a 15 minute walk from the town centre. In addition, it is about a half-an-hour walk from Buckley train station, which is on the Bidston-Wrexham railway line.
The Globe is situated right at the end of Globe Way, with on road parking available along Globe Way. Drinks are available in the clubhouse, which overlooks the ground in one of the corners, whilst hot food and drinks are also available from a snack bar at the entrance end of the ground.
Football has been played in Buckley since the 1860s but the current club was formed in 1977 when Buckley Wanderers and Buckley Rovers merged together, to improve the standard of football in the town. Buckley Town have consistently been one of the stronger sides in Flintshire, having competed in the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division, and then being ‘ever stays’ in the Cymru Alliance for over 25 seasons. Their most successful season being the 2004-05 season when they won the CA title, but were unable to accept promotion to the Welsh Premier League.
Since then, Buckley have continued to play in the Cymru Alliance, albeit a season’s hiatus back in the Welsh National League after getting relegated at the end of the 2016-17 season. Nonetheless, they soon regained their position in the second tier, and became one of the founding members of the Cymru North league in the 2019-20 season.
Buckley Town are also the record winners of the North East Wales FA Challenge Cup, having won the regional cup on nine occasions, with six of them coming in the 2000s.
