The ground is only a few miles outside of the city of Chester, and within walking distance to the Broughton Retail Park. So there are always regular bus routes from Chester train station to the factory and/or retail park.
The Airfield football ground is located on the old entrance road to the Airbus Broughton factory, just before the security gate. Drinks are available in the Broughton Sports & Social Club opposite the pitch, whilst hot food and drinks are also available at the ground.
Originally the factory team of the Broughton aeronautical factory, the team and factory has had many names throughout the years, such as Vickers-Armstrong, Hawker Siddeley, British Aerospace and BAE Systems. However the team are currently known as Airbus UK Broughton to acknowledge the company the factory is now a part of, and the village they are based in. The Wingmakers (the nickname given as the wings to Airbus’ multiple aircraft are assembled in the Broughton factory) play at The Airfield, which is located just beside the factory and uniquely beside the runway of Hawarden Airport.
Airbus UK Broughton were one of the strongest sides in Welsh football during early half of the 2010s, finishing runners-up in the Welsh Premier League on two consecutive occasions in 2013 and 2014, as well as reaching a Welsh Cup final in 2016. It also saw the club qualify for the UEFA Europa League for three straight seasons, giving a great account of themselves each time by losing just twice in six European games.
They were last Cymru Alliance champions after winning the final season in 2018-19, before the league was reorganised into the Cymru North.
